Curaçao is so much more than just beaches — although, let’s be honest, the beaches are amazing. What we truly love about this island is the wide variety of things to do, whether you’re into adventure, culture, nature, or just relaxing. Here's an overview of our favorite activities in Curaçao — experiences we've enjoyed ourselves and would absolutely recommend.
Snorkeling & Diving – Underwater magic
The underwater world around Curaçao is incredible. We love snorkeling at spots like Tugboat Beach, where you can swim above a sunken tugboat, or Playa Grandi, where sea turtles glide past calmly. For diving, there are countless shore dives — from mushroom forests to colorful drop-offs. Never dived before? There are great schools that offer beginner-friendly intro dives.
Boat Trips – See the island from the water
One of the best ways to see Curaçao is from the sea. We recommend taking a boat trip to Klein Curaçao, a deserted island with white sand beaches and turquoise water. It’s a full-day experience, often including lunch and drinks. Sunset catamaran cruises along the coast are also magical — think music, wine, and golden skies.
Hiking – From coastlines to mountaintops
Curaçao has some stunning hiking routes. From the salt flats of Jan Thiel and the scenic coastal trail near Tugboat Beach, to the tougher climb up Christoffelberg (entry: 25 ANG), there’s something for every level. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, plenty of water, and start early to avoid the heat.
Road Tripping – Explore the island by car
The best way to explore Curaçao is by rental car. We love driving through the island's diverse landscapes — from the green hills of Bandabou to colorful villages and remote beaches. Don’t miss a stop at Shete Boka National Park, where the wild sea crashes into caves and rocky coves. It’s raw, rugged, and unforgettable.
Culture & History – A colorful island past
Willemstad’s vibrant architecture and street art are a joy to explore. The Kura Hulanda Museum offers insight into the island’s colonial and African history, while the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. A walk through Otrobanda and Punda gives a real taste of Curaçao’s layered culture.
Shopping & Markets – Local flavors and souvenirs
From local aloe vera products to Caribbean spices and handmade art, Curaçao has plenty of shopping spots. We enjoy visiting the floating market (when it's open), local boutiques in Pietermaai, and art galleries featuring local creators. Rif Fort Village and Sambil Mall are great for more modern shopping.
Wellness & Relaxation – Find your zen
If you need a reset, Curaçao offers great wellness options. Think beachfront yoga, massages at beautiful spas, or even floating therapy. Many resorts welcome outside guests for treatments, or you can book private wellness services directly to your villa.
Food & Drinks – Taste the island
Try local dishes like stoba (stew), pastechi, and of course fresh fish. Visit local food trucks (Truk’i Pans), dine by the water, or enjoy a cocktail at Zanzibar on Friday nights. There’s always something delicious to discover.
Nature & Wildlife – Explore Curaçao’s wild side
Visit the Flamingo Sanctuary in Sint Willibrordus, where you can see wild flamingos in the salt lakes. Or head to Hofi Pastor for a walk among ancient trees. You’ll spot iguanas everywhere, and if you’re lucky, maybe even a shy Curaçao deer.
Festivals & Events – When the island comes alive
If you're on the island during Carnaval, Kaya Kaya Street Festival, or one of the many music events, don’t miss it. Curaçao knows how to celebrate — with parades, dancing, food, and community spirit.
Final Tip: Mix It Up
Our best advice? Do a little of everything. Some beach, some adventure, some culture. Whether you’re visiting Curaçao for a week or a month, there’s always something new to experience. And the great thing is — most of these activities are within 30–45 minutes of Casa Lapalapa 19, your perfect base to explore the island.
